Sage Southern Cuisine

Our eldest son had told us about this place. I’m so glad we listened to the recommendation. We had the ribs, fried catfish, fried chicken, mac and cheese, potato salad, collards, string beans and corn bread. When I tasted the mac and cheese it brought tears to my eyes. I haven’t had mac n cheese that good since my grandma passed 35 years ago. For me, it was that good. The owner, JP and his mother were personable. My only wish is that it were more of a sit down restaurant. It would be a good place to take the family for Sunday dinner, like going to grandma’s house

I was referred here by a friend.... Happened to be in Nyack, so decided to stop in. So glad I did. We ordered the catfish dinner, which came with potato salad, collard greens, got a side of Mac n cheese, candied yams, and a fish sandwich. Cornbread came with it as well. Everything was so delicious! and I mean everything! and I am picky about my soul food. on top of everything being delicious, the service was top notch. I'll be back!

Dang! You better eat here! Everything is done with love and you can taste it. I’m from the south, so I’m very skeptical of eating it in the north. This was like the best Grandma’s dinner. We had fried fish and fried chicken and tried every side. Every bite was delicious. Went back and had a great lunch! Ribs+! This Mac and Cheese is the truth.

Food was great I had the two fried chicken, Collard Greens, Mac N Cheese, and the corn bread. Food was fantastic. The owner was very kind and we had a very friendly conversation. Sadly, I didn't take a picture of the food and I just devoured it straight away.... Highly recommend for the food, service, and the kind atmosphere.

I tried this place for the first time with my father recently, an hour before closing. The menu is easy to understand and read. I love the simplicity of their food options, especially since Southern comfort food often has much to offer in its cuisine. I love that the owner was ambitious to open a restaurant with their twist while having some popular and well-known Southern comfort dishes. My dad ordered the Sage Chicken Sandwich with mac and cheese. I did not get to snap a photo since, when he received his food, he started eating it right away. I ordered the Fish Dinner (fried whiting with string beans and candied yams). The string beans were beyond flavorful compared to other Southern comfort food places I have eaten at in Nevada that steam their vegetables and lightly season them with salt and pepper. Next, the whiting fish was fried to perfection; I do not ever eat fish with the skin on since many restaurants lack proper seasoning and cooking it evenly to perfect crispness. This is crucial since many fried fish I have had were soggy, bland, or tasted fishy, and lastly, sometimes the fish skin was too slimy. This restaurant owner made sure to properly season and avoid any previous concerns I had with previous restaurants without me having to ask! Also, the candied yams were melt-in-your-mouth and not at all overpowering in sweetness. Lastly, the cornbread was delicious; this is a lot since I have disliked cornbread for the longest time and finally found a restaurant to change my opinion on this.I know my dad overall enjoyed his meal so much; he found the chicken sandwich to be juicy, crispy, and flavorful. The mac and cheese he had was also a delight, tasty, creamy, cheesy, and delicious. Both of us plan to certainly come back and try other foods they offer. We loved that everything is fresh and you are able to taste the passion and love that goes into the process of cooking your meal, made to order, so please be patient with the restaurant staff and owner. Alright, enough about the food. The staff and owner are all outstanding people, especially the owner, who is so wholesome, genuine, kind, and possesses many more wonderful traits. It was truly a blessing talking and enjoying a meal at your restaurant! The ambiance is simple and the music is awesome. They also keep the restaurant and environment clean and tidy. Truly delicious! the food is always on point. I love getting the fried fish w/ fries combo. Great portions and excellent services. It would actually be cool if they added shrimp into the menu for the pescatarian.

Excellent food and outstanding service! We had the catfish dinner and the whiting fish & chips — both were absolutely amazing. The flavors were spot on, and everything was cooked perfectly. The owner was super friendly, welcoming, and very informative about the menu and the restaurant. It was a great experience all around — we’ll definitely be back!!

Fried chicken good, Mac and cheese very cheesy, collard greens clean and not salty, fish had great flavor and fried well. Plan on take out only because the restaurant is not inviting to eat inside, it’s a hole in the wall with ok food not great. They do well because there is no other soul food near by. I won’t run back. Menu is high price and limited selections .
